Almost the 4th...

My fondest 4th of July memories read like a love letter to summer in Austin ...

Mutts in red bandannas and toddlers in Radio Flyer wagons, on neighborhood parade, ending at Miss Shirley's for a popsicle and watermelon...

{not exactly a literal pictorial representation, but I love this photo - here}

An afternoon dip - squishing the mud between your toes at West Lake Beach or cannonballing until your lips turn blue at Barton Springs...

{here and here}

Waiting all day for sunset, for fireworks boasting the entire spectrum of the Sno Beach flavor syrup rainbow...

{here and here}

Munching cold fried chicken and slapping mosquitoes in the "cheap seats" above Auditorium Shores, begging spare change off Dad in hopes of another squeal-worthy penny-squashing spectacle courtesy of the Amtrak, and anticipating the final strains of the 1812 Overture to fade into the BOOM of the cannons... and then...

Wishing you all a
hot, sticky, cold-water-wet, watermelon-y, popsicle-y,
snow-cone-syrupy, fried-chicken-y, penny-squishing,
magical Fourth of the July!
