tagging wars!

oh how i wish this blogging game of tag we've all been having could be counted as exercise :)

i've been tagged 3x today but 2 lovely ladies... so i guess i better get started!

the oh-so-fabulous Blue-Eyed Brided tagged me for the following 2:

#1. The Bookworm Award
Here are the rules: Pass it on to five other bloggers, and tell them to open the nearest book to page 56. Write out the fifth sentence on that page, and also the next two to five sentences...The CLOSEST BOOK, NOT YOUR FAVORITE, OR MOST INTELLECTUAL!!
i am so excited about this one b/c i LOVE books and have been wanting to do this one! sadly, i am at work today, so my reading material will not be as fascinating... unless you are into coolkid legal books! but here goes...

O'Connor's Texas Rules: Civil Trials

3. good cause. the court has good cause to refer the matter to a master. TRCP 171, Simpson, 806 S.W.2d at 811; Owens-Corning, 830 S.W.2d at 626. the "good cause" requirement has not been precisely defined. See generally Simpson, 806 S.W.2d at 811-812 (discussing difficulty in defining "good cause" requirement of TRCP 171).

scintillating right? i told you it was going to be good. i bet you are all going to go out and buy that little gem now!

#2. The Friendship Award
here are the questions:

(a) do you have the same friends since childhood?
my friend Ashley and i have been friends since we were 5. we're not as close as we were then and we have lived completely different lives since we were about 10 but she's one of those friends who i can not speak to for a year and then pick right back up where we left off. other than Ashley, my friend and matron of honor Colleen and I have been friends since we were 14. we still talk mostly every week - if not more by email - even though she and her beautiful family live in GA.

(b) what do you value most in your friends?
honesty, humor, goofyness, wit, good-listeners. also, like i said above, i love being able to pick up right where i left off with a friend - which has become so important lately now that 95% of my friends live outside of Texas and we all have such crazy lives. i miss you guys!

(c) are your friends sounding boards?
omg yes! i make very few decisions (big, small, fashion, life) without consulting friends and my parental units.

(d) what is your favorite activity to share with friends?
currently, sharing activities with my closest friends involves a roadtrip or a plane ride, so traveling would be one! visiting them and getting to see their day-to-day lives. also, wine-ing and cheese-ing, of course!

#3. The Rangel-Carangui Family tagged me to list 6 non-important/habits/quirks of mine... while i'm sure i have about 78634 more of those, since i just did this one a couple days ago - and in honor of the 45 degree wheather - i'm going to mix it up a bit and list...

My Top 6 Holiday Movies!!!!

yeah, sorry, maybe i'm a cheater, but i've been wanting to do this for a while so deal with it :)

(a) White Christmas

if ya'll haven't seen this classic with Bing Crosby, you're missing out! its what every old movie should be - a sweet story, amazing vintage costumes and dance numbers, and singing! this is the movie where "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" originated, which happens to be my favorite Christmas song as well!

(b) A Toy's Christmas

not a very well-known one, but my very favorite from childhood! we used to have this taped (complete with commercials from 1985) on a beta-max tape. i finally found a VHS copy a couple of years ago and now i'm hunting for the DVD so my mom and i can continue to watch it every year. basically, A Toy Story totally ripped off A Toy's Christmas, so the story will sound awfully familiar if you ever end up watching it but there are songs, and Jim Henson puppets, and Kermit the Frog narrates. its pretty much awesomeness.

(c) Christmas Vacation

duh. never gets old. this is Evs' very favorite holiday movie and HBO has been playing it non-stop for the last month so we've gotten in the spirit even earlier than usualy this year. we've discussed having a National Lampoon's Christmas Party next year once we have a bigger place. i've already found the perfect party accessories!

(d) Elf

this is another "duh" if you know me in real life. true story: my dear friend Jacq and i lived in Spain for 5 mo. our junior year of college. about 3 weeks prior to our departure, we took a little trip to Paris to see the Christmas lights and spend mass amounts of money at the herve chapelier store. one of our nights there, it was freezing and sleeting, and we were feeling a little homesick for American Christmas so we went to go see this Elf movie that was being advertised everywhere (in English, w/ French subtitles). we were probably the only Americans in the whole theater. well, i guess Will Ferrell doesn't translate very well b/c the Frenchies were not very amused - but we laughed until we cried and about peed our pants. every since, Elf is funny no matter what time of year it is!

(e) A Christmas Story
my dad and i turn on TNT's 24 Hours of a Christmas Story every Christmas Eve after all the guests have depleated the brisket and bourbon supply at my grandparents' annual holiday party. doesn't matter where in the story we turn it on - it always gives us a chuckle. nothing says Christmas like a sexy leg lamp and a red rider b.b. gun!

(f) Love Actually

Hugh Grant dances to "Jump for My Love" and "All I Want for Christmas is You" is predominantly featured. so really that's all i need for a good dose of holiday cheer.

i'm going to tag these terrific gals to continue this whirlwind game! i know there's been a ton of these lately, so pick whichever ones inspire your wit! or be a bad sport and refuse to play :)

And Your Little Dog Too

Grosgrain Bride

Brown-Eyed Girl & Her Beau

A Tale of Two Sisters

Sweet Simplicity

  4. You must also be a legally blonde type with a book like that on your desk. Oh, what fun.

Like the Shabby Princess, I too nominate Love Actually as one of the best movies ever. Hugh Grant shimmying around 10 Downing Street is the best, although I will take anything featuring Colin Firth too.
