napa, napa, napa, yay!

last week at work was hectic to say the least - not so much 100% crappy, because i was given assignments that actually required a juris doctorate (always a perk to use the ol' noodle every now and again), but also not 100% fun, because that meant staying up at work until all hours of the night (boo. hiss.).

Evster also burned the midnight oil last week. so, because i'm the awesomest wife of all time (duh), i sent him a dozen Tiff's Treats on Friday, for no reason at all.

so while i was at work on Saturday (i'll pause meaningfully for your sympathies...
onemississippi... twomississippi... aaaaaand, go), he bought me tickets to Napa for a long weekend in September,* for no reason at all.

well, back-track: not really for no reason at all but this mini-break locale was quite the (fabulous) shocker! we've talked about visiting Napa in the future - maybe in a year or two with friends - but apparently the airfare was too good to pass up (almost free with miles!), so its off to wine country we go!

some photos of our adorable hotel (where bouchon bakery delivers breakfast to our door every morning!!!) - the cottages of napa valley:

i am beyond excited - we love to travel and lazily visiting wineries in Santorini is one of our all-time favorite globetrotting experiences! i've already amassed quite a list of wineries to visit but if anyone has any favorites, send them my way!

*show-off. next time, i guess i'll spring for two dozen freakin' cookies.

  4. Yeah, he totally "one-upped" you with the trip to Napa. But, the cookies were really sweet. Next time, send him a stripper. ;)

I've always wanted to go to Napa for the wine. I'd love to be a conisseur (or, however the fuck you spell it...I'm too lazy to pull up dictionary.com), myself, but I have a long way to go. In the meantime, I'll drink myself silly with a cab sav.

  7. Ooh, you have to go to Mumm's. They're famous for their sparkling wines(including sparkling reds which I'd never had before), but their big patio is why it's worth going, IMO ... beautiful! Have such a great time - I would LOVE to go back.

  11. Coming to your news late... YAY!!! We just got kinda-invited (read: to be confirmed in a sober setting) to a Napa weekend in September - wouldn't that be crazy if we were there at the same time? Good work, Evan.

  12. Have so much fun!!! I'm a California girl and I miss it terribly. You'll have no problem finding some fabulously yummy eats in Napa and enjoying the lovely scenery. I'm slightly (ok, that's a lie--more than slightly) jealous.

  17. What a great guy! There's a wonderful sparkling wine vineyard at the south end of both Napa and Sonoma Valleys - Domaine Carneros. Also, one of my favorite tours is in Sonoma (which I personally think is prettier and tends to be less crowded) at Benziger. They have a great tasting garden - where you can try the different varietals and how the different soils and lights affect the taste.

  19. I also just visted Santorini last weekend (honeymoon!) and had an amazing visit at one of the local wineries. A fantastic view of the caldera!!

Also, being a wine lover that lives in Cali,I would definitely recommend V.Sattui (the most fun atmosphere), Duckhorn (they serve you cheese/bread too!) and Rombauer (for the best quality wines).

  22. Nice job Evs! I was just in Napa Valley the second week of June and had a fabulous time. I posted all about it but my favorite wineries were the smaller ones. Hill Family Estates and Hope & Grace are both in downtown Yountville; both have great little tasting rooms and seriously delicious wines. Elizabeth Spencer is on 29 between Yountville and St. Helena and also delicious-- but one of the more expensive tastings at $20 pp. I have tons of other recs if you'd like for dinners, etc... just e-mails me! itiseverlasting@gmail.com

also, if you are interested in high end boutique wines that nobody else has, go to Darioush. their wines are literally nectar of the gods, liquid gold.
