friday porn

while probably not a shocking revelation, i must confess that my daily routine still consists of virtually pawing through wedding blogs, oooing and ahhhing, with a goober grin on my face. i've added a slew of design and cooking blogs to my Lady-Porn Repertoire, but weddings will always be my greatest weakness.

oodly enough, i have yet to go through the post-bridal-blues, but maybe that's because weddings have always been and will always be a great passion of mine. i was the five year old who ran home after school to change into her pretty, pretty princess flower girl dress from her cousin's wedding - a garment that my mother was more than willing to let me make mudpies in, given its heinous, pouffy tangerine-taffeta make-up (it was 1988 - so my cousin totally gets a pass). i was the fourteen year old that bought bridal mags on the sly... and the seventeen year old high school senior who put Vera Wang: On Weddings at the top of her Christmas list - a book that still sits, well-loved and tattered and thumbed-through, on my nightstand.

friends and family poked fun at this minor obsession, maybe half-way thinking i was morphing into the stereotypical "All About the Wedding" sort of girl. to the contrary - my love for weddings has never been solely about my own but about the beauty of such a celebration in general. a wedding is one day that is 100% about love and beauty and family and new beginnings. the idea of two people (any two people, btw, but that's another post), surrounded by those that love them most in this world, announcing and rejoicing in their committment to one another just makes me plain happy - simple as that. and seeing the couple's creativity and personalities shine through their celebration - watching all the little, personal touches and details come together - inspires me to find beauty in the small things and to appreciate uniqueness. it makes my day to experience, however vicariously, that one, perfect-in-its-own-way celebration.

so... summary: woo hoo! i love weddings - booyah!

now that that's taken care of, will you please look at this and squeal with me in delight?

its been taunting me from the cover of Brides for a week now. after it caught my eye for a third time, i had to sneak a peek. like an 11 year old boy with his father's Playboy, i stealthily flipped to the table of contents while the Central Market cashier wrestled with my produce selections... and there it was:

cover gown designed by Angel Sanchez.

i should have known my adorable Latin gay-boyfriend would be the mastermind behind a gown both architecturally stunning and sensually feminine ("my Angel is the centerfold / Angel is the centerfold"). and please don't even ask me about the rosettes. the rosettes are breaking my heart. its like the man is saying "Alo! Kati! i have made for you this gown for your 6 month vow renewal ceremony! won't you please come try it on? we'll drink a bottle roja while you do so and speak to each other softly of flamenco guitar and perhaps my mother will make you an empanada!"

if wedding media is porn, then Angel Sanchez is my Hustler.

and i am tooootally on board with that.

note: love this gown (obvs) / hate the styling (pictures taken by brides.com) - the glory of Sanchez's gowns is that the man knows women... and designs his dresses accordingly, to compliment a little hip-age and boob-age. shoving a size 2 model in a size 0 dress for a fashion show? not a fan, and i would hope Angel would have the same reaction! if anyone spies this gown on a real woman, send the photos my way - i'm dying to see it in real life!

  1. that dress is to die for. i am also obsessed with all things bridal; you will often find me stealing a glance at bridal magazines in grocery stores, and then, finally picking one up to take a closer look when no one is looking. i do not want to fit the stereotype of the female who loves weddings. it's a closet obsession. lady-porn is exactly what it is.

  2. 6 month vow renewals are very common, I say go for the dress!

It's truly gorgeous. I've never been a big wedding planner, but I can appreciate a beautiful dress!

  3. That dress is incredible. Wow. The structure is amazing as are the rosettes. I would totally do something like that for a vow renewal... you know, everyone's doing it these days. :)

  5. Gurl... it's scary how familiar the first part of this post sounded to me - seriously. I actually did a report in high school on Vera Wang :-)

  6. Kate, I could have written this post myself (apart from the very witty Angel dialogue!!) I am still as obsessed with weddings as I was before I married. I can't get enough of Style Me Pretty and the gorgeous celebrations showcased there. And I also never had the 'post wedding blues'.

    Keep enjoying!!

  12. You make me feel so much better about still perusing wedding websites and anxiously awaiting the new edition of T&C weddings.

The dress is lovely! However, I agree with the Blake Lively-esque sizing issue.
