Travel Snapshots: Playing Tourist

I mentioned in the comments of one of my posts last week that I always get a good chuckle when I hear people fuss about not "seeming like a tourist."  Newsflash, my friends: when you don't speak the language and you're standing in line to view the Sistine Chapel, local peeps are going to smell your "foreign-ness" from a mile away - it doesn't matter how cleverly you hide your camera or how chicly you are dressed!

I definitely do subscribe to the "Let's Not Be an OBNOXIOUS Tourist" train of thought... I believe it's important to learn about and respect the culture of the folks whose home you are visiting, to take care with your clothing choices, be conscientious in your speech, and to adapt to the pace of life once arriving in your destination.

But come on... it's vacation!  Let yourself be a little goober-y!

Day Cruise off of Santorini... turned out to be a pirate ship!

Atop an active volcano in Santorini

Tranny Friend!
"Lady Boy" Drag Show in Phuket

Getting measured for custom duds in Bangkok

Cabbages & Condoms in Bangkok
{actually, the Thai food here is sensational -
and proceeds go to programs aimed at stopping the spread of STDs in rural Thailand}

I have about a thousand photos of us at various ancient sites in Greece...
But what says "tourist" more than a name badge, shorts & tennies,
and posing in front of a centuries-old phallus?

And with that, we're off to visit the Uffizi Gallery and see Michelangelo's David at the Accademia!

  1. just a little jealous of all your travel adventures ;) hope you are having a great time now!

  2. Your itinerary sounds amazing! I'd love to see pics of the clothes you had made.

happy little comments!
